BOOK NAME: ABIGAIL
AUTHOR & ILLUSTRATOR: CATHERINE RAYNER
PAGES: 28
PUBLISHER: TIGER TALES
AGE RECOMMENDED: 2+
Abigail is a giraffe in the lands of Africa. She loves to count things around her like Ladybug’s spots, the leaves on a tree, Zebra’s stripes, and Cheetah’s spots. Unfortunately, they all get eaten up or moved away swiftly and she was so frustrated. Seeing the frustration of Abigail, her friends decided to help her and took her to a beautiful meadow filled with flowers. They counted it until dark and eventually they could count the stars also.
A beautiful counting book and I am intrigued by the illustrations more. The lovely shapes, patterns and contours of the animals’ bodies are the ones spot on in this book. I always pick a book for its beautiful illustrations and this is one such book. Apart from counting, this book teaches young kids about patience, friendship, and zeal to finish work. The last page of the book was like wallpaper and I may frame the page for its lovely tinted sky and the grace the animals postured.
A book to remind the readers to appreciate the art around us.
I am going to look out for more of Catherine’s books and you can expect more reviews soon.
