REVIEW: On A Dark Dark Night By Simon Prescott

BOOK: ON A DARK DARK NIGHT

AUTHOR & ILLUSTRATOR: SIMON PRESCOTT

PUBLISHER: LITTLE TIGER PRESS

PAGES: 25

AGE RECOMMENDED: 2+

The story starts on a dark dark night. A mouse goes somewhere, and each page goes with suspense. No one knew where the mouse was going. The words are very minimal and the illustrations let us know what that mouse is going to do. There are very small words like dark, path, town, street, gate, yard, house, stairs, room and door. These words help the child in learning new words. The final page finds the mouse discovering a piece of cheese, after all of the suspense-filled from the first page.

The illustrations are top-notch and it is one of my favourite books by Nathan. A very short and sweet story.
