BOOK NAME: DOSA AMMA DOSA
ILLUSTRATOR: ANUPAMA S. IYER
PAGES: 16
PUBLISHER: TULIKA
RECOMMENDED AGE: BABIES TO PRESCHOOLER
Dosai Amma Dosai is an old Tamil rhyme, which every household will sing to their babies. Still, all subconsciously sing that rhyme saying “Amma suta dosai” meaning Dosa made by mother. This Tulika book breaks that stereotype and doesn’t mention who made the dosa. I loved this gesture by them because Nathan loves his father’s dosa and it’s his responsibility to make the dosa exclusive for him. A book which reminds the kitchen of every house where we would have made millions of dosas.
The song goes,
Dosa, Amma, Dosa
Ghee roasted dosa
Grind this, grind that, and mix to make a dosa.
Five for my father
Four for my mother
Three for my sister
Two for my brother
And one big dosa all for me!
This beautifully illustrated rhyme adds up like a counting book and also a vocabulary-developing book. Don’t forget to pick this versatile book for your baby’s nursery.
