DAY 10 TURTLE DOVE
And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the LORD be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons.
Leviticus 1:14
In earlier days, burnt offerings were a symbol to please god and take away our sins. These birds were chosen for sacrifice because they were mild, gentle, and harmless. But the birth of Jesus changed this and we no longer need animal or bird’s blood to forgive our sins. The blood of Jesus cleanses us and we are set free from anything.
We read The Twelve Days of Christmas today and this Carol has an interesting history.
The twelve days in the song are the twelve days starting with Christmas Day or in some places, the day after Christmas to the day before Epiphany. In other words, it’s the span between the birth of Christ and the coming of three wise men to meet baby Jesus. These twelve days are also celebrated as a feast in some countries.
